One thing I always will encourage others to do, is take your camera wherever you go. Practice and practice.
In a few of my YouTube videos I have mentioned about practicing in difficult conditions, like harsh light. Why? So when you get days when you have to, you can.
Don't always go out with a specific type of shoot in mind either. Todays walk was full of Street, seascape, landscape ..... just different types. Its always good to enjoy them all. The reason is? to take great photos wherever you go.
Todays walk was with my Son Martin to Durlston Castle. He like photography too (not as much as football) and often is out with me. Its great spending time with your family.
